‘Between Trehafod and Barry Island’

Tirwedd Soniarus, a sonic composition, is the result of an extensive research project into the industrial remains of the disused Barry Railway line from Trehafod to Barry Island.

The work explored how to employ the peculiarities of individual stations along the disused route, railway signalling, as well as the spoken word in order to create a lyrical and meditative language.

The sonic work was experienced as two site-specific installations. Both installations included: a private collection of railway signalling instruments; a Great Western Railway table and 5 railway lanterns from the Barry Island Railway.

The first event was held at the Barry Island Station on Friday, Sept. 7th 2007 at 7pm. The installation was on display throughout the weekend from 11:00am – 5pm.

The second installation event took place at sunset on Sat. Sept. 22, 2007 at St Catherine’s Church, Pontypridd.
